When you grow up in a family that owns a construction business, you learn a thing or two about the world of building. So, when it came time to decide on a college major, Jesse Thompson knew construction; it was the business side of it that he wanted to learn. With that in mind, he earned degrees in business management and marketing from Rowan University.
For several years after college, Jesse worked in business operations and facilities management for an advertising agency while continuing to work for his family’s business. However, Jesse eventually decided that he wanted to gain industry experience with a commercial construction company. During a two-month motorcycle trip along the East Coast, Jesse called his old friend Matt Dutton to discuss a passion they share: barbecue sauce. What started as a call about food ended with an interview opportunity from Scungio Borst Associates for a Superintendent position. That must have been some good sauce.
“In 2008 I met Jesse on a complex project called The Star Building. I instantly knew then that this kid had what it takes to lead and excel in construction, building, and management. In 2012 when he reached out and mentioned he was looking for a change of pace, he wound up working side-by-side with me on an intense project at Quakerbridge Mall. Since I’ve met Jesse, his leadership, ownership, knowledge, intensity, vision, and motivated approach to prioritize and execute has been growing exponentially on the daily. And he has a blast doing it! You can’t help but to put a smile on your face when you’re in the middle of it with Jesse!” said Matt Dutton, Scungio Borst Construction Manager.
Seven years later, Jesse is now a Project Manager and one of Scungio Borst’s most successful employees at drawing new business. Examples of his work include The Cherry Street Pier, The Wanamaker House Renovations, Pier 68, and The Spring Garden Connector. His success as a Project Manager is a testament to his work ethic and his attention to clients’ needs, concerns, and expectations.
Jesse currently resides in Haddon Township, New Jersey with his wife Alicia and 2-year-old daughter, Tessa. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, and most of all, relaxing with his family.
