Director of Operations
October 15th, 2019
After growing up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, and attending James Madison University, Nicholas Fornaro found himself in search of the American dream. At this time, it was the 1980’s and with the housing boom in full swing, Nick realized that the best jobs were in construction.
Nick threw himself into the industry, instantly falling in love with his work. The excitement and satisfaction of seeing a building from start to finish pushed Nick to learn as much as he could in the quickest amount of time– putting him on the fast track to management. After several years as a lead superintendent for homebuilders and a site development company, Nick made the move to project management for one of the largest multifamily owner-developers in the country. During those years, Nick led project management teams performing multifamily renovations from New England to Florida.
After the market crashed in 2009, Nick found himself working as a third-party consultant, allowing him to work closely with professionals in the industry from all over. A few of those people happened to be the owners of a small construction management group based out of Camden, New Jersey, Scott Scungio, and Phil Borst. The instant connection lead to a full-time job at SBA; but with the three-hour commute to and from Philadelphia every day, Nick decided to find a job closer to his home in Maryland. After a few years as a Senior Project Executive for a Top 10 National Contractor, Nick realized that owners such as Scott and Phil are a rare premium in this industry. So what did he do? He decided to go back to the firm, but this time as a director and living part-time in Philadelphia, traveling home on the weekends.
Nick has now been Director of Operations at Scungio Borst for three years and doesn’t see himself leaving anytime soon. “Construction is construction anywhere you work, but the integrity and ethics that Scott Scungio and Phil Borst have as owners is what keeps me here and pushes me to be the best I can be.” Nick is even arguably one of the team’s favorite directors seeing as he is the co-chair of the ‘Scungio Borst Fun Committee’, and spearheads the Annual SBA fishing trip.
Nick lives in Ocean City, Maryland with his wife, Susan, dog Belle, and their countless pieces of taxidermy. Nick and Susan have two children, Marissa and Dominic; and on the weekends you can always find him hunting, fishing, crabbing, golfing or relaxing on the beach.
